Mayfield hit the wall and could

race off pit road followed by
Denny Hamlin and Tony Stewart. Lap 425 - Jeff
Gordon has dropped to fourth
after getting passed recently by
Jimmie Johnson and Clint Bowyer. Lap 380 - Play
the Jaws theme - Jeff Gordon and
Jimmie Johnson are catching
leader Denny Hamlin. Lap 369 - Jeff
Hammond (Via @NASCARonFOX on Twitter): The short
track racing is giving the Fords trouble, otherwise
they are doing ok. CAUTION 8 - LAPS 367-372:
Robby Gordon spins out coming off Turn 4 to bring
out the caution. Martin Truex Jr. gets the free
pass. Nones of the leaders pit Lap 360- With the help of Carl
Edwards, who is two laps down, Jeff Gordon passes
Jimmie Johnson to take over second place. CAUTION 7 - LAPS 353-358:
Debris. Reed Sorenson gets the lucky dog and becomes
the 19th car on the lead lap. Leaders pit, but the
top three will leave in the same order - Hamlin,
Johnson and Gordon. Lap 350 - NEW RACE LEADER Denny
Hamlin is now up front. And Jimmie Johnson took over
2nd.. Lap 349 - Oh by the way, Jimmie
Johnson is now up to third. Lap 343 - NEW LEADER Jeff Gordon
grabs the lead, but he's got Hamlin and Bowyer right
no his tail. Lap down cars are going to affect
this lead battle. Lap 330 - Jeff Gordon catches leader
Denny Hamlin and Clint Bowyer is not far behind.
This is going to get good. Lap 320 - Clint Bowyer just passed
Dale Jr. for fourth - he is fast! Lap 312 - Jeff Hammond (Via @NASCARonFOX
on Twitter): Look out for the 14 car of Tony
Stewart, those last adjustments he just made are
looking like they worked out. Lap 298 - Dale Jr. is catching
second place Jeff Gordon. Lap 293 - FOXSports.com's Lee
Spencer: One tire specialist told her that the teams
suffering tire issues seem to have two things in
common: too low on air and too much camber. Lap 291 - Dale Jr. complaining of
being loose in - the forward bite is pretty bad Lap 280 - Carl Edwards has a flat
right rear. Had to pit as a result and fell two laps
down to 31st (was 13th when the tire went flat) CAUTION 6 - LAPS 254-264:
Scott Speed goes into the wall. Michael Waltrip gets
the free pass. It's giong to be a busy pit road as
all the lead lap cars pit. Denny Hamlin comes in and
leaves the pits first with Jeff Gordon right behind.
Dale Jr. set to restart third. Carl Edwards lost
nine spots due to a lugnut issue on pit road Lap 251 - Jeff Hammond (Via @NASCARonFOX
on Twitter): Rubber build up on the track is going
to form an upper groove in this second half of the
race. Keep an eye out. LAP 250 - HALFWAY: Top 10 -
Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Dale
Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer, Kurt
Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick and Mark
Martin. Lap 244 - Carl Edwards and Dale
Earnhardt Jr. have passed Tony Stewart for third and
fourth respectively the last few laps. Lap 240 - Virginia native Denny
Hamlin is on a tear up front - only 22 cars remain
on the lead lap. Lap 206 - Carl Edwards just passed
Dale Earnardt Jr. for 5th while Kyle Busch suffered
a right front tire issue. Lap 199 - Aric Almirola the third
straight driver to have a tire issue in the last few
minutes. Lap 197 - Joey Logano falls off the
pace with a tire issue. Lap 196 - Elliott Sadler blew a
tire, careened into the Turn 2 wall -- but makes it
into the pits without a caution. Lap 171 - Tony Stewart passes Jeff
Gordon for 2nd. Lap 156 - NEW LEADER: After battling
Jeff Gordon for several laps, Denny Hamlin takes the
lead. The battle allowed Tony Stewart to catch up,
and he nudged Gordon a bit - much to the chagrin of
Gordon. Lap 153: Juan Pablo Montoya and
Jamie McMurray are battling for 15th. Last week they
crashed together, so it'll be interesting to see how
it works out between these two. CAUTION 5 - LAPS 140-143:
David Ragan and Robby Gordon make contact in Turn 2
which brings out the caution just as Denny Hamlin
was about to pass Jeff Gordon for the lead. Gordon
keeps the lead as most of the leaders pit. Scott
Riggs gets the lucky dog free pass. FOX TV replays
show that Robby Gordon had a tire go down before
crashing into Ragan. Lap 135: With leader Gordon battling
lapped traffic, Denny Hamlin has been able to catch
up and is right behind him. Lap 131: AJ Allmendinger breaks into
the Top 10. Lap 128: David Gilliland hits the
Turn 4 wall after blowing a tire ... but makes it to
the pits without bringing out the caution. Lap 114: Jeff Gordon has already led
100 laps this afternoon. Lap 110: Despite his early issues,
Dale Jr. stayed out during the last caution and has
broken into the top 10. Lap 106: Denny Hamlin and Clint
Bowyer managed to pass Kurt Busch for second and
third respectively.
CAUTION 4 - LAP 91-96: Robby
Gordon had a flat tire and spins out in Turn 2. A
weird situation - Matt Kenseth was in line to get
the lucky dog, but Robby Gordon had just gotten
lapped right before he spun out, but because he
caused the caution nobody gets the free pass. About
half the field pits under caution, but not the
leaders. CAUTION 3 - LAP 71-75: Kyle
Busch and Scott Speed wreck. Busch got loose all by
himself coming into Turn 3 and collected Speed.
Speed's rear end is damaged, but Busch's car is only
slightly damaged. Busch immediately went on the
radio and apologized. Jimmie Johnson goes in for
additional service during the caution. Lap 58: NEW LEADER - Jeff Gordon
passes Scott Speed to retake the lead. Lap 55: We have a spirited battle
for 10th between David Reutimann and Kyle Busch. Lap 48: Dale Earnhardt Jr. lines up
40th with transmission issues. CAUTION 2 - LAP 42-47: As
expected, a competition caution has been thrown.
Although this caution was intended to allow teams to
check tire wear, stopping is optional. Michael
Waltrip gets the lucky dog and will get back on the
lead lap. Almost the entire field comes down pit
road. Dave Blaney is one of four drivers to stay out
during the caution and he will get credit for
leading a lap. Blaney pits, allowing Scott Speed to
stay out an extra lap and get five bonus points for
leading a lap. Speed actually stays out for the
restart CAUTION 1 - LAP 22-26:
Michael Waltrip made contact with David Stremme then
spun out in Turn 4 to bring out the first caution.
He makes light contact with the wall. Some of the
cars in the back come in for service, but they
cannot refuel right now because the competition
cautino comes out on Lap 40. Lap 17: Jeff Gordon on his radio:
"Tight through the middle, loose getting off ... I
hate to nitpick it's pretty damn good". Lap 11: Speaking of drivers to watch
- Jimmie Johnson up to fourth. Lap 5: Jeff Gordon continues to
lead, but Tony Stewart is already up to fifth. Keep
an eye on him today. Jeff Gordon up front early here. GREEN FLAG! Engines have fired and Cup cars are
on track. Steve Byrnes (Via @NASCARonFOX on
Twitter): Jimmie Johnson & Chad Knaus chose a pit
stall in turn 4, trying to avoid traffic on pit
road. See if their strategy pays off!. All the prerace festivities are
complete, it's time to go racing. An update from Martinsville: NASCAR
will throw a competition caution on Lap 40 so teams
can check tire wear after rain wiped out yesterday's
practice sessions. It's been a rainy weekend, but the
sun is out and green flag racing is set to begin at
2:10 p.m. ET. Welcome to FOXSports.com's coverage of Cup Racing from Martinsville!
