Speedway Samsung 500 Recap Race 07 2009 1:30pm ET Sunday April 5th CHECKERED FLAG - JEFF GORDON WINS 10 LAPS TO GO - JEFF GORDON LEADS CAUTION 6 - Lap 303-308: David Stremme got into the wall, tried to hang on to it, but then spun to bring out the caution. Leaders pit during the caution. Jeff Gordon wins the race off pit road. Biggest loser? Race leader Carl Edwards drops to 11th. Lap 298: Tony Stewart passes Jeff Gordon for 2nd. Lap 295: NEW LEADER - Lap down cars help Carl Edwards take the lead. Lap 294: Carl Edwards is up front and battling Gordon for the lead. Lap 289: Dale Earnhardt Jr. pits. He got into the wall right before that stop Lap 263: Jeff Gordon leads and now Carl Edwards has moved into second place. Lap 258: WOW! Battling to get a lap back, Kyle Busch slid up the track and bumped into Dale Earnhardt Jr. Junior slides from first to fourth because of that. CAUTION 5 - Lap 249-258: Robby Gordon's engine blows up to bring out the caution. David Reutimann gets the lucky dog free pass. Leaders pit during the caution. Dale Earnhardt Jr. takes only two tires and nabs the lead. CAUTION 4 - Lap 231-237: Sam Hornish Jr. spins out in Turn 2. He doesn't seem to have hit anything though and will continue. Unfortunately, Bobby Labonte wasn't as lucky. He tried to avoid the spinning Hornish and hit the wall hard - picking up a lot of damage. He goes straight to the garage. Paul Menard was the lucky dog during that caution. CAUTION 3 - Lap 219-224: Marcos Ambrose's engine blows up to bring out the caution. Several lead lap cars, including leader Greg Biffle pit during this caution. Tony Stewart tells his crew: "I don't want to get it too tight because that's where we're going to beat them in the end." Dale Jr.'s crew didn't get all the lugnuts on, so he will have to come back in. Jeff Gordon will restart as leader. Lap 217: Pit sequence is over, Greg Biffle is leader again. Lap 216: Jimmie Johnson pits, Paul Menard takes lead. Lap 215: Jimmie Johnson takes lead. Lap 213: Dale Jr. pits, Mark Martin takes lead. Lap 211: Tony Stewart pits, Dale Jr. takes lead. Lap 208: Race leader Matt Kenseth pits, Tony Stewart takes lead. Lap 205: Third place Matt Kenseth pits. Lap 204: Pit stop sequences begin. Lap 182: Jimmie Johnson is back in top 10. Chris Myers (via @NASCARonFOX on Twitter) on Lap 181: Talking to Jeff about how #5 is the perfect driver to give info to his crew chief. He started 23rd & is now 9th. Jeff Hammond (via @NASCARonFOX on Twitter) on Lap 160: Just got in from outside & the heavy wind gusts are really creating headaches for all the cars. Watch out for what happens ... OH NO! David Reutimann just got hit with a one lap penalty for changing a tire outside of the pit box. Tough luck for that team - they were doing so well. CAUTION 2 - Lap 157-160: Elliott Sadler bounces off Turn 4 wall and spins on the frontstretch to bring out the caution. Brian Vickers got the lucky dog free pass on this caution. Lap 155: Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick just got nabbed for speeding and will serve drive through penalties. Lap 152: Race leader Greg Biffle pits, Jeff Gordon takes top spot. Lap 151: Pit stops begin. Lap 130: OK, raise your hand if you thought David Reutimann could hold onto a top five position to this point in the race. This guy is for real, and he has to be considered a contender today and also to make the Chase. Lap 117: NEW LEADER - Greg Biffle takes the lead. Lap 111: Kyle Busch is complaining of a tire rub and is coming back into the pits shortly. He's asking the team to get the baseball bat ready. CAUTION 1 - LAP 98-102: Debris on the backstretch. AJ Allmendinger (24th) is the lucky dog and will get his lap back. Race leader Tony Stewart leads a parade into the pits. Matt Kenseth wins the race off pit road, followed by Greg Biffle, Stewart and David Reutimann. Dale Earnhardt Jr. led a lap during the caution. NEW RECORD: This is the longest we've gone without a caution to start a race here at Texas. Previous record was 64 laps (2006 spring race). Jeff Hammond (via @NASCARonFOX on Twitter): Hometown hero and NFL on FOX analyst Troy Aikman is here at the race, love to see him at a NASCAR event. Lap 87: NEW LEADER - Tony Stewart takes the lead. Lap 68: After stalking him for a few laps, Tony Stewart passes David Reutimann for second. Lap 55: This pit stop cycle ends and Matt Kenseth reclaims the top spot. Lap 53: Kyle Busch becomes the lead when Stewart pits. Lap 52: David Reutimann and others pit this time around. Tony Stewart assumes the lead Lap 51: Several teams start to pit, including Juan Pablo Montoya and race leader Matt Kenseth. David Reutimann retakes the lead. Lap 47: NEW RACE LEADER. Matt Kenseth takes the lead from David Reutimann as Reutimann struggled to get past Casey Mears. Lap 33: Race leader David Reutimann has already lapped drivers in positions 39-43. Lap 29: Tony Stewart nabs third from Paul Menard while Kyle Busch has worked his way up to fifth. Not far behind is Dale Earnhardt Jr. (12th) Lap 24: Only one Richard Childress Racing car in the Top 20 - Jeff Burton (20th). Lap 20: Tony Stewart passes Jeff Gordon for fourth. Lap 15: Reutimann continues to lead, but Jeff Gordon has dropped back to fourth. Matt Kenseth and Paul Menard are wedged in between the two. NEW LEADER: Polesitter David Reutimann retakes the lead on Lap 8. NEW LEADER: Jeff Gordon nabs the lead on the very first lap. GREEN FLAG
